4 Days in Bangkok: A Complete Itinerary
Four days covers Bangkok's major temples, markets, and food scene at a comfortable pace.
Day 1: Grand Palace and Wat Phra Kaew
Arrive early at the Grand Palace, dressed modestly, and see Wat Phra Kaew's Emerald Buddha. In the afternoon, take a Chao Phraya river boat to explore the riverfront, and end the day back near the Old City for dinner.
Day 2: Wat Arun and Wat Pho
Cross the river to Wat Arun in the morning for its striking spires, then return to Wat Pho for the reclining Buddha and, if time allows, a traditional Thai massage at the temple's respected massage school.
Day 3: Markets and canals
If your dates include a weekend, spend the morning at Chatuchak Weekend Market. In the afternoon, take a khlong canal boat tour for a different view of the city away from the main tourist areas.
Day 4: Chinatown and street food
Spend the day exploring Chinatown (Yaowarat), returning in the evening when the street food stalls come alive — this is one of the best single nights of eating in the city.
Getting around
The BTS Skytrain, MRT subway, and Chao Phraya river boats cover most of this itinerary efficiently; use a ride-hailing app or insist on the taxi meter for anything else.
What to pack
Modest clothing for temple visits (strictly enforced at the Grand Palace) and light, breathable fabrics — see our Bangkok travel guide for the fuller packing list and common scams to avoid.
