4 Days in Petra and Wadi Rum: A Complete Itinerary

4 Days in Petra and Wadi Rum: A Complete Itinerary

Four days covers Amman, a full exploration of Petra, and an overnight in Wadi Rum's desert without rushing between them.

Day 1: Amman

Spend the day at the Amman Citadel and downtown, with an evening on Rainbow Street, before traveling to Wadi Musa in the late afternoon or evening ahead of an early start the next day.

Day 2: Petra

Enter early through the Siq to reach the Treasury before the day's crowds build, then continue through the site toward the Royal Tombs and up to the Monastery, budgeting real time for the climb. If your dates align with Monday, Wednesday, or Thursday, consider Petra by Night for a second, very different visit.

Day 3: Wadi Rum

Use a final Petra morning for anything missed, or head to Wadi Rum midday. In the afternoon, join a Bedouin-guided jeep tour through the desert before settling into an overnight camp.

Day 4: Wadi Rum sunrise and departure

Catch sunrise over the desert before returning to Amman, with a Dead Sea stop worth considering en route if timing allows.

Getting around

JETT buses connect Amman, Petra, and Wadi Rum; inside Wadi Rum itself, a licensed Bedouin-driven jeep is the only way into the reserve.

What to pack

Sun protection, sturdy shoes, and a warm layer for cold desert nights — see our [[link:/blog/petra-travel-guide|Petra travel guide]] for the fuller packing breakdown and more on choosing where to stay.
