4 Days in Prague: A Complete Itinerary

4 Days in Prague: A Complete Itinerary

Four days covers Prague's Old Town, Charles Bridge, the Castle complex, and a quieter side of the city without rushing between them. This itinerary groups stops geographically to minimize crosstown backtracking.

Day 1: Old Town

Start at Old Town Square in time for an hourly Astronomical Clock show, then wander into the Jewish Quarter (Josefov) to see the Old New Synagogue and Old Jewish Cemetery. Spend the afternoon exploring the streets around Tyn Church before an early dinner at a traditional hospoda.

Day 2: Charles Bridge and the Castle

Cross Charles Bridge early, before the crowds and street performers arrive, and continue up through Mala Strana to Prague Castle. Spend the late morning in the free courtyards and gardens, timing your visit for the noon Changing of the Guard, then buy a ticket for St. Vitus Cathedral and the Old Royal Palace if their scale interests you.

Day 3: Petrin Hill

Take the funicular up Petrin Hill for the lookout tower and the Strahov Monastic Library, then spend the afternoon at a slower pace in Vinohrady's cafes and restaurants. Consider timing your walk back down for sunset.

Day 4: Flexible day

Use a final day for Vysehrad, a quieter fortress and park south of the center with its own river views, or a second pass at any Castle interiors or museums you skipped earlier. A Czech beer hall makes a fitting last evening.

Getting around

The integrated metro-tram-bus network covers the city on one validated ticket; the historic core itself, from Old Town to Mala Strana, is walkable in well under an hour.

What to pack

Sturdy shoes for the cobblestones and hills, and a rain layer regardless of season — see our [[link:/blog/prague-travel-guide|Prague travel guide]] for the fuller packing breakdown and more on choosing where to stay.
