4 Days in Queenstown: A Complete Itinerary
Four days covers Queenstown's lakefront, a full Milford Sound excursion, an adventure activity, and a half-day in Arrowtown.
Day 1: Lakefront and Skyline Gondola
Walk Queenstown's lakefront and take the Skyline Gondola up Bob's Peak for views over the town and Lake Wakatipu. Consider the luge track at the top, or simply enjoy the view from the restaurant deck.
Day 2: Milford Sound
Devote the full day to Milford Sound — whether self-driving or joining an organized tour, budget for the roughly two-hour drive each way plus a boat cruise on the sound itself. A scenic flight is a faster, pricier alternative.
Day 3: Adventure activity
Choose an adventure activity matched to your appetite for adrenaline: bungy jumping at the original Kawarau Bridge site, jet boating on the Shotover River, or a gentler option like paragliding or a lake cruise aboard the TSS Earnslaw.
Day 4: Arrowtown and Central Otago wine
Spend the morning in Arrowtown, a short drive away, walking its historic main street. In the afternoon, visit a Central Otago winery for a Pinot Noir tasting before returning to Queenstown for the evening.
Getting around
Queenstown itself is walkable; a rental car or organized tour is needed for Milford Sound and Arrowtown.
What to pack
Layers and a windproof jacket matter in any season given the mountain weather — see our Queenstown travel guide for the fuller packing breakdown.
