4 Days in Sydney: A Complete Itinerary

4 Days in Sydney: A Complete Itinerary

Four days covers Sydney's harbor, beaches, and a day trip to the Blue Mountains at a comfortable pace.

Day 1: Harbour and the city center

Start at Circular Quay, taking in the Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge from the water's edge. Walk across the Harbour Bridge (or book the bridge climb for a bigger view), then spend the afternoon in The Rocks for its history and dining, or the Royal Botanic Garden for a quieter pace.

Day 2: Bondi and the coastal walk

Head to Bondi Beach in the morning, then walk the coastal path south toward Coogee, passing Tamarama and Bronte beaches along the way. Allow a few hours for the walk itself plus stops, and finish with a swim or a meal at one of the beaches along the route.

Day 3: Taronga Zoo and the harbor

Take the ferry to Taronga Zoo for wildlife viewing with a harbor backdrop. In the afternoon, return to the city for more time in the Botanic Garden or a harbor cruise if you want a different vantage point on the Opera House and bridge.

Day 4: Blue Mountains day trip

Take a train or organized tour to the Blue Mountains for the day, visiting lookout points like Echo Point for the Three Sisters rock formation and, if time allows, a short bushwalk into the eucalyptus forest.

Getting around

An Opal card covers trains, buses, and ferries across all four days; the Blue Mountains day trip is easiest by train from Central Station or a booked tour with pickup.

What to pack

Sun protection and a swimsuit for the beach day, plus comfortable shoes for the coastal walk and any Blue Mountains walking — see our Sydney travel guide for the fuller packing list.
